South Bohemian Intermezzi 2019

About the South Bohemian Intermezzi Festival

South Czech Philharmonic has prepared the second year of an original festival – a show called South Bohemian Intermezzi. The purpose of this festival is to return music where it always belonged, that is in historical noble residences. The festival also aims to bring more variety in the summer season in the historical sights, as classical music hasn’t been heard in the residences of the region very often.

The South Bohemian Intermezzi Festival is held on five Thursdays in August in castles and chateaux Rožmberk, Kratochvíle, Zlatá Koruna, Hluboká nad Vltavou and Nové Hrady. All playlists have been compiled to attract both experienced and less experienced listeners and entire families with children. The music played at the concerts will be accessible, with programme lasting about 1 hour.

Everybody was enthusiastic about the idea and agreed. Tomáš Ille arranged the music, the excellent Vojtěch Spurný conducted the music and no doubt, the result is magnificent.

The audience, authors, protagonists and the orchestra and conductor were all delighted, the recorded performance was broadcasted by Český Rozhlas Dvojka and Radioservis released the performance on CD at the end of 2017.

They have made a major contribution to launching a movement to encourage musical freshness and rigour. A better understanding of the compositions, closer study of the early treatises, the playing styles, the musical environment of the glorious era of the mandolin, leads to better appreciation of Baroque music, which itself became over time a mode of thought and action.
